Free transport service for public servants to commence

b0b4ad6aThe Public Service Employees Transport Service Enterprise (PSETSE), which was established last year with the aim of providing free transportation services for government employees, announced that it is commencing a trial transportation service as of Monday with over 50 buses.

According to Director General of the Enterprises, Dereje Woldeyohannes, the trial of transportation service will be carried out in ten routes across Addis Ababa mainly, Chefe-Hayat, Jemo, Akaki-Kality, Yeshi Debele and Asko.

He also indicated that his enterprise has already received its 53 sample buses that are locally assembled by the federal conglomerate, the Metals and Engineering Corporation (MetEC).

The enterprise, which is set to commence on Monday morning for the first time by providing a transportation services to public service employees, will render services during office opening and closing hours free of charge. It was also noted that, the enterprise’s buses will be using Anbessa Bus stations

Dereje told The Reporter that the service will be provided only for government employees for the time being but in the near future it may extend its service to other users during the rest of the day with fee when there is transport shortage and will assist the public along with the Anbessa bus services.

He also said the enterprises currently operate service with the budget fully allocated by the government, however, since it is established as a profit making public enterprise, it will begin to generate its own revenue to administer itself fully as a state development enterprise.

The enterprises was officially established in November 2013 with an initial capital of one billion birr, which was also reportedly said to be merged with Walia Intercity Bus Services Enterprise.

It was recalled that the government announced last month, it has made salary increment that ranges from 33 percent to 46 percent for civil servants. The increment was said to be effective starting from the new budget year’s first month.

Sufian Ahmed, Minister of Finance and Economic Development said the salary increment coupled with other measures the government is devising would improve the life of civil servants. These included free transport service, housing privileges and improving supply of commodities.

Civil servants with lower salary range will get the highest salary increase rate, 46 percent, while those in the highest salary bracket will get the 33 percent increment.
