Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Tedros Adhanom held talk with a delegation from Huajian Group on Thursday March 20, 2014.
On the occasion, the final design of the future economic zone, “Shoe City,” was presented to the Foreign Minister.
Dr Tedros welcomed the final design of the future economic zone and expressed his appreciation for the Huajian Group’s investment.
He further added that the Ethiopian government remains committed to support and encourage the Group in its involvement in the country and used the opportunity to call upon other Chinese investors in the country.
The head of the delegation informed the status of the new project and explained that preparations are underway to start the project and added that according to the Group’s plan construction is expected to start after two months.
He pointed that the first two years were fruitful and added that with hard work and the support of the government, the future of the Huajian Group in Ethiopia “will be bright”.
Huajian opened a factory in 2012 in Dukem employing over 3000 people, and has committed itself to invest $2bn to create an economic zone on 320-hectare in Lebu Addis Ababa creating employment for 30,000 to 50, 000 Ethiopians.
