In an interview he had with Addis Admass newspaper, Gebrealu Terefe has claimed to be the first African to make a helicopter all by his own.

Gebrealu told the newspaper that it took him about two hundred thousand birr to make the helicopter. The young man said that he made the helicopters rotor blades from fiber glass and the engine from motorcycle motor. He also told the newspaper that he got a patent for his work from the Ethiopian science and technology ministry.

He also said that the helicopter he made is airworthy and can be packed into a bag. The youth has also said that his helicopter can be used for the military and police and that his helicopter will be inaugurated in the coming two weeks time.
