74cff7e6Those engaged in illegal telecom service put into prison A court case that has been hanging for about three years and seeing into the case of 15 individuals who have been engaged in illegal telecom service got its final verdict on February 28, 2014.

The minimum verdict passed was 2 years and 9 months prison sentence and 25,000 Br fine while the maximum reaches to 12 years prison sentence and 3, 898,000 Br fine.

These individuals who have used sophisticated software to launch an illegal phone call service are charged of inflicting a revenue loss of about 16 million Br on the only telecom service in the country, EthioTelecom.

One of the 15 individuals accused of the illegal phone call service, Ato Melaku Hailu are charged with 12 years prison sentence and 315,000 Br fine. Others are sentenced from 2 years and 9 months to 6 years and 6 months prison sentence. For those who have been for about 3 years and 8 months in prison, the court has ordered to be freed.
