a3c80b19Authorities The US citizen archeology professor Samuel Walker is asked to hand over various artifacts of the Axum civilization era in his possession to the Ethiopian Authorities. Sources said that the professor has collected different human and animal remains, clays having the Axumite writings, carvings and others archeologically important items in his research in the area.

And according to the Ethiopian law, anyone who has found such artifact is obliged to report and handover the items to the Ethiopian authorities. But sources said that the professor hasn’t either report or handover the items to the authorities. As the Reporter newspaper writes on the issue, the Ethiopian archeology and Paleontology society has informed the case to the Ethiopian heritage preservation and study authority where the authority then writes to the Tigray region urging it to receive the artifacts from the professor.

As the region’s culture and tourism agency told the newspaper, the agency has ordered the Archeology department of Axum University to receive the artifacts from the Professor. The head of the Axum University’s Archeology department, Andualem Tariku told the newspaper that he convinced the professor to hand over the artifacts to the region’s authorities.
