Ethiopian foreign ministry announces that the number of Ethiopians repatriated from Saudi reaches 87,523. Among this 54,529 of them are men and the number of women and children are 28,943 and 4,051 respectively.
The Ethiopian government has expressed his gratitude for the various bodies that took part on this important endeavor. It is expected that the number of Saudi repatriates will even be more than this. And it is been working on increasing the number of flights to and from Saudi from 12 to 20 to increase the pace.
It is indicated that, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Road Authority, temporary shelters are erected and some of the repatriate citizens have started going to their own locations.
And in one day only, some 4,020 citizens have gone to their own locations. Currently, there are about 45,000 Ethiopians who have registered to return to Ethiopian in Jiddah. And it is said that a continuous week long effort will be enough to return back all of them.
Regional states have been working to help the repatriated citizens and some Ethiopian investors too had promised to create work opportunities to the repatriated citizens. Ethiopian Foreign Ministry declares that through the Meskel square Branch of the Ethiopian Commercial Bank, any citizen can contribute to this effort.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) briefed the media on Tuesday as to the ongoing repatriation of undocumented Ethiopians from Saudi Arabia and the 3rd Ethio-Sudan Joint Commission Meeting.
MoFA spokesperson, Ambassador Dina Mufti said the repatriation of undocumented citizens from Saudi has been going on in a synchronized manner.
If current trends continue, he said, the repatriation process will wrap up by midday coming Tuesday.
So far, 87,523 citizens including 54,529 men, 28,943 women and 4,051 children have been reunited with their homeland, he added.
He called on all sections of the society to support the ongoing efforts of the government to contain illicit human trafficking.
As regards the 3rd Ethio-Sudan Joint Commission Meeting, Ambassador Dina said, the two sides are expected to conclude deals covering energy, trade, tourism and other sectors.
They are also supposed to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of agreements signed during the 2nd Ethio-Sudan Joint Commission Meeting, he added.
