The amount of the salary raise not yet disclosed

As the Ethiopian civil service ministry’s public relations officer Getachew Abdissa told Addis Admass newspaper, the amount of the recent salary raise for the government employees hasn’t yet been disclosed to his office. Besides to this, as sources told Addis Admass newspaper, there will be a possibility for a salary raise for government employees every three years.

The last time salary raise enacted was on December, 2010 with a salary raise percentage ranging from 38.75 % to 44.71 %. An Economics lecturer at the private university, Mesfin Yilma, commented that the upcoming salary raise would be of higher percentage than the previous one.
Ethiopian political opposition’s only parliament member in the past five years, His Excellency MP Girma Seyfu in his part told the newspaper that the salary raise is a crucial measure from the government’s part. He also urged the government to implement a salary raise that would be sufficient for the civil servant to have a saving than only for an ordinary subsistence.
