Ethiopian Sugar Corporation announced that seven of the ten sugar factories that are being built will be operational by the end of next year. The ten sugar factories are known to be constructed with 100 billion birr capital.
A two days seminar that was held at the Adama town on the issue of empowering the sugar projects with human resource, logistic, equipments and technology is designed to create a link between universities, TVETs and other research institutions with the sugar projects.
Director General of the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation, Shiferaw Jarso has also said that efforts are underway to increase the pace of the three projects that lag behind the schedule. He also said that when all the projects are completed it would be possible to produce 2.25 million metric tons of sugar.
Though the project cost was only just 100 billion birr initially, additional modern installations on the factories and other additions that enable for the factories to use the waste for power production have raised the project cost.
