Saudi repatriates who are receiving items they brought home are expressing their complaint. And it was only starting from last week that they started to receive their items from Saudi. The repatriates complained that they are forbidden to take used clothes and asked to pay taxes for television and other house items.
Addis Ababa Airports’ Customs Branch office head, Ato Zeru Getinet said that the problem is due to some merchants sending Refrigerator, washing machines and other very expensive items disguised as if it is the repatriates’. He also said that though one can bring his own used clothes, some of the repatriates are bringing contraband used clothes which the customs office in checking whether the used clothes are of the repatriates themselves or not.
Some Saudi repatriates are also criticizing the customs office for some item that were said to be missing. Efforts to contact Ethiopian Airlines for comment haven’t been possible.
