World Health Organization (WHO) announced that though the malaria epidemic has subsided across the globe recently, every year some 200 million individuals are infected.
As the report released by WHO on the world’s malaria day indicate, some 600 000 are killed by the malaria epidemic every year. Ethiopian Ministry of Health in its part said that the country hasn’t seen any malaria epidemic in the past five to six years.
In Ethiopia, the occurrences of the malaria infection and death toll due to malaria have dropped by 67% and 48% respectively.
The death of infants below the age of five due to malaria infection is also decreased by 81%. 60 % of the country’s population is living in areas which are highly affected by malaria and from the country’s total geographic area 75% of it is vulnerable to the epidemic.
