Mesfin Habtemariam Passed away, 69

d930c295The great Ethiopian author and essayist Mesfin Habtemariam passed away yesterday night on July 13, 2014.

He was 69. Mesfin was born in Mojjo. Mesfin Habtemariam is widely known for his three books of essays: ‘Yebuna bêt Se’eloch’, ‘Awede amet ena lelochem’ and ‘Yelelit demesoch’. In his decade’s long literary career, Mesfin has written numerous articles on various newspapers and magazines. He had also a short stories collection, ‘Azeb’ and ‘The rich man and the singer’.

Mesfin who was once a lecture at the Addis Ababa University has also worked as an editor at the then Kuraz publisher.

Mesfin Habtemariam is an Ethiopian pioneer in an essay style of writing. Mesfin has been ill for about two years after an ailment he got while he was serving as a translator in Uganada with the Ethiopia peacekeeping force.
