One of the weeklies charged by the ministry of justice, Lomi magazine’s publisher and owner Gizaw Taye has appeared before the court on Friday and released on 50 000 Br bail. The charges’ hearing on ‘Fact’ and ‘Addis Guday’ publishers on Wednesday and Thursday respectively is conducted in the absence of the accused.
Ato Gizaw has told the court that he received the charge only three days ago and that he needs more time to discuss the matter with his attorney.
Rejecting the prosecutor’s request otherwise, the court ordered for Ato Gizaw to appear on court well prepared on August 20, 2014. Ato Gizaw is accused of publishing two articles which the prosecutor deemed “too provocative of violence” and “falsely portraying those accused of terrorism charges as if they are innocent and ‘victims of government’s crackdown on criticism’”.
