IHG to open first hotel in Ethiopia

2260a583Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is expanding into Africa with the signing of its first hotel in Ethiopia.

The hotel group has signed an agreement with Tsemex Hotels and Business to develop its Crowne Plaza brand in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The 210-room property is situated close to the African Union headquarters, African Union convention centre and the United Nations convention centre.

The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, health club and spa and swimming pool. It will also offer a range of meeting facilities including boardroom, seven large meeting rooms and a ballroom for larger events.

Pascal Gauvin, IHG CEO for India, Middle East and Africa, said the hotel is currently developed to exploit the growing inflow of tourists and foreigners, particularly with the Bole International Airport now serving almost 20 million passengers yearly.

“Addis Ababa has great potential for tourism but is currently under-supplied in catering to business travellers and meetings and events,” he said.
