Heavy flooding damaged the Megenagna Bridge’s foundation

85197c49The flooding that follows the heavy downpour that swept Addis on August 6, 2014 has damaged the foundation of the Megenagna Bridge.

Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has closed the bridge off traffic due to the damage. The Authority’s General Manager, Engineer Fekadu Haile told reporters that the heavy flooding caused damages on six other locations. Narrow drainages, design problems and the lack of infrastructure that can channel the flooding from the higher plains of city are some of the major causes for the problem.

The General Manager has said that the support structures built for the support of the Megenagna Bridge have suffered damages; and since the main structure supporting the bridge had shaken due to that, the bridge has to be closed for traffic starting from Thursday.
