Press release On Feb 17 at 13: 30 mid night, Ethiopian airline flight 707, on scheduled service to Rome has been unlawfully cased and forcefully land at to Geneva airport.
It has been confirmed that all the 193 passengers on board of flight 702 are now safe and are soon expected be transported to their destination. The suspect in the air hijack, an Ethiopian air line co- pilot, is currently under custody, pending investigation by the proper authorities.
From preliminary report, the said pilot has claimed to be an asylum-seeker. A claim which not only files in the face of article 32 of that Ethiopian constitution , which guarantee the freedom of any citizen to leave the country at any time he/ she wishes/ but also represents a gross betrayal f trust that needlessly endangered the lives of the very passengers that a pilot is morally and professionally obliged to safeguard.
The Ethiopian people and government offer sincere apology to the passengers of Ethiopian airline who unduly suffered emotional stress and inconvenience. Ethiopia also expresses its appreciation and gratitude to the government of Switzerland for all the care provided for the passengers and prompt apprehension of suspect.
Presently, the Ethiopian government, is close cooperation with its Swiss counterpart, is doing everything in its power to expedite the travel of Flight 702 passengers to their intended destination.
