Gondar University announced that it would start offering German language certificate course in the coming academic year.
Speaking at a curriculum evaluation workshop on Thursday, Dean of College of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University, Eyayu Belay, said the training will be given in cooperation with German Cultural Institute.
The main objective of teaching the language is to provide guides proficient in German so that several tourists who visit the tourist destination city of Gondar can be supported by them, he added.
According to Eyayu, the language teachers would come from Germany to train for the first time 15 trainees in three months. They would earn certificate.
Coordinator at Gondar City Culture and Tourism Department Heritage, Zewdu Belay said German tourists are the fourth largest group that visits the city.
