XIAMEN, Fujian, China – Kenya’s Mariko Kiplagat Kipchumba clocked 2 hours 8 minutes 3 seconds to win the men’s title of the 2014 Xiamen International Marathon here on Thursday. Ethiopia’s Mare Dibaba, 24, clinched the women’s title with 2 hours 21 minutes 37 seconds and broke the record of Xiamen International Marathon.
More than 20 world-class competitors from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Morocco, traditional long-distance powerhouses, participated in this year’s event.
Mare Dibaba , a 24-year-old Ethiopian runner, crossed to win the women’s full marathon in a time of 2 hours 21 minutes 37 seconds at the 2014 Xiamen International Marathon on January 2, 2014.
The prize money for the full marathon winner is US $40,000, and the event also offers time awards of 10,000 USD to male runners who finish the race between 2:07:32- 2:08:30 and female runners who finish the race between 2:22:38 – 2:23:30. US $1 million will be awarded for setting a new world record.
