Ethiopia’s 1st toll road to be open for traffic

6a7cdbb4The Addis Ababa- Adama highway, the first toll road in the country will be opened for traffic starting from Sunday, September 14, 2014, the Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise announced.

The six-lane road, which is the first of in its kind in the country, has consumed over 10.3 billion Birr, of which 57 percent is covered from Exim bank of China as loan.

The 84.6km long and 31 meters wide road would cut the travel time from the capital city, Addis Ababa to Adama from three hours to 45 minutes.

China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has built the road.
The highway has vital role as it is part of the road which connects the capital with the port of Djibouti and also with the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang inaugurated the road last May.
