Ethiopian’s Co-pilot Hijacker may Faces 20 Years in PrisonEthiopian government’s communication affairs office head, Redwan Hussein in his press conference to the media today, February 17, 2014 has disclosed the identity of the co-pilot hijacker to be Hailemedhin Abera, 31 who has served in the airlines for five years.
Redwan said that it was while the pilot leaves his seat to go to the washroom that the co-pilot closes the cockpit door and by controlling the airplane that he heads it to Geneva, Switzerland. “Since both Ethiopia and Switzerland has signed the international air safety agreement the Ethiopian government is preparing to request for the extradition of the co-pilot in which case he faces 20 years in prison”, Redwan said.
Redwan said that the motive of the co-pilot hijacker hasn’t yet been known. The Ethiopian airline’s Flight 702 that was heading to Rome from Addis has been carrying passengers of different countries among which 140 Italians, 11 Americans, 10 Ethiopians, 5 Nigerians and passengers of countries like England, Ukraine, Swiss, Ghana, Congo, Kenya, German and Tanzania were also been on board.
