Ethiopian government plans to build a 1,060 MG hydropower plant in the Baro-Akobo River Basin.

A report from Ethiopian Radio and Television said that Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water and Energy has awarded a USD 1.5 million contract for the pre-feasibility and feasibility study of the Tams Hydropower Project. The state owned Water Works Design and Supervision Enterprise and Italy’s Electroconsult, an engineering firm based in Milan that specializes in hydropower projects, will perform the study. The tender was released in November 2012.

However, the new dam will be located between Bonga and Gambella, located near Ethiopia’s border with Sudan.
