Ethiopian Scholars responses to Egyptian Politicians Remarks

55517187Following an Egyptian presidential candidate’s remark on the renaissance dam some Ethiopian scholars have expressed their views .

The Egyptian presidential candidate Mortada Mansor has said that if he becomes president he would use military force to stop the construction of the renaissance dam’s project.

In response to this remark Dr. Mussa Mohammed said that the remark clearly depicts Egypt’s intent to use the river’s water all by itself.

Dr. Yakob Arsano who has researched on the river basin for about 25 years, in its part, said that whatsoever military means by the Egyptian government can’t hinder Ethiopian from using the river. “To control Abay one has to control Ethiopian; which is unthinkable” he added.

Dilla University’s political science and international relations lecturer Zerihun Abebe also commented that “the remark by the presidential candidate shows two things: the first one being the personality of the candidate and the second one ‘an effort to cultivate the issue of the renaissance dam for his political gain’ which can never be materialized”.
