The newly established Ethiopian Journalists Forum has warned other media professional associations such as the Ethiopian Journalists Association, Ethiopian Free Journalist Association and Ethiopian National Journalist Union.
Betre Yacob, president of the forum, told The Reporter that these associations apart from working and striving for the rights of journalists are working on defaming their organization.
He also said that their mission is to assist journalists and not compete with any other associations, therefore they requested the leaders of those association to understand their mission and to stop their defamation against the forum.
In a statement sent to The Reporter, the forum also claimed that the leaders of those associations were defaming their newly established forum through different medias.
The leaders of associations said that the forum is working to destabilize the country and working with some western embassies based in Addis Ababa.
Though they said all this, they are not able to provide any evidence to prove their allegations, and therefore request that the leaders of those associations bring all the evidence that they have both for the government and for the public.
The forum also stated that failure to bring all the evidence that they have to government is their responsibility.
The president of the forum additionally told The Reporter that they are ready to work with anyone who wishes to work on the rights of journalists but that the forum condemns the attack from other associations on their forum.
