The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed readiness on Wednesday to repatriate Ethiopians present in Saudi Arabia without residence permit.

The announcement follows a decision by the Saudi government to deport foreigners without residence permit in the country.

According to Ambassador Dina Mufti, MoFA spokesperson, the Saudi government has called on foreigners without residence permit in the country to acquire one until Sunday, 03 November 2013 or leave the country.

Several Ethiopians in Saudi entered the country illegally, and those Ethiopians would not be issued residence permit to stay there after the deadline.

Ambassador Dina said the government of Ethiopia is finalizing preparations to repatriate citizens without residence permit in Saudi.

Ethiopians who can’t secure residence permit until the deadline and would like to return to their homeland may contact the Ethiopian Consulate General in Saudi which is standing by to look after them.
