Ethiopia Designs Acid Soil Treatment Project With Finnish Help

884d921aThe government of Ethiopia, in collaboration with the government of Finland, has designed a project for acid soil treatment and its implementation will begin soon, according to the Ethiopian Geological Survey.

Chief Geologist Hunde Meleka said here Tuesday the project would be implemented by the Ethiopian Geological Survey and the Ministry of Agriculture together with the Foreign Ministry, the Geological Survey and the Agriculture and Nutrition Study Programme of Finland.

The government of Finland will provide US$500,000 in assistance for the project, Hunde added.

According to the chief geologist, the aim of the project is to treat acid soil which is prevalent in Ethiopia. Finn soil scientists are well known for treating acidic soil, he added.

The Finnish experts will work to treat acid soil and study what kind of fertiliser is best suited for the soil. Testing will begin soon in sample sites identified at various parts of the country.
