mansourMansour: I will not run for presidency, Ethiopia dam crisis can be solved

President Adli Mansour said he will not run for presidential election and that he will return to his work at the Constitutional Court, noting that his respect for the law and the constitution made it incumbent upon him to accept the post of interim president of Egypt.

In an interview by editors-in-chief of the Kuwaiti Al-Seyassah, Al-Anbaa and Al-Khaleejiya newspapers during their visit to Ittihadiya Palace last week and published on Tuesday, Mansour said the 3rd Arab-African summit will provide an opportunity for floating transparent economic visions for the good of all participating countries, especially regarding the River Nile water and the quotas for concerned countries.

Mansour made it clear that there are undoubtedly other harmless solutions for the Nile basin countries and their costs are much less than the Renaissance Dam which is currently under construction. Such solutions could be more useful for all countries in terms of energy and other fields.

Ethiopia says the purpose of establishing the dam is to produce energy which could be generated by other means or different types of dams that could use engineering systems that do not harm downstream countries, added Mansour.

He also noted that it will be very useful to raise the issue at the summit, hoping that discussions would turn out in Egypt’s favor.
Asked about the aim behind his tour in a number of Gulf countries, Mansour said the tour aimed at extending thanks to the countries which helped Egypt as well as carrying a message from the Egyptian people to the peoples of these countries.

He said his meetings with the kings, presidents and heads of state of the Gulf Cooperation Council were very friendly and expressed the special relations binding the Egyptian and their people.
Mansour also termed his visit to Kuwait as a “brotherly meeting” which reflected the depth of the two countries relations, noting that the Kuwaiti Emir is “a wise man” and he felt his very much love and respect for Egypt and its people.

As regards Egypt’s roadmap plan and whether it will be finished on time, Mansour said “Yes, we are currently waiting for the 50-member panel to finish its work on the constitution drafting, working to end differences in viewpoints, which is a normal matter, in order to draft a constitution expressing all segments of the Egyptian people and their trends”.

Mansour also said “we have to get prepared for the parliamentary and presidential elections”, noting that the presidency at such phase will have to bear a lot of burden to eliminate the consequences of the previous period and what happened in Egypt in the wake of the January 25 Revolution.
