Ethiopia creates close to 4 million jobs in three years of GTP period

346cac3aAddis Ababa: January 2, 2014 (FBC) Close to four million jobs were created across the country during the first three years of the Growth and Transformation Plan period, the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction said.

In an exclusive interview with ENA on Tuesday, the Minister Mekuria Haile said the performance exceeded the target set to achieve at the end of the GTP period by over a million.

He attributed the success to the expansion of micro and small enterprises and a number of ongoing huge projects.

Some one million of the jobs created during the reported period were temporary, he said, adding, the Ministry is striving to make the jobs sustainable.

Town administrations have been facilitating loan service, land for manufacturing and marketing and technical and vocational training for members of micro and small enterprises, the Minister said.

The government has decided that construction of infrastructure facilities to be labor intensive in a bid to create more jobs.
