Ethio Telecom to undergo a mobile phone registration in the country on the phones that are on use and on those that is entering into the country. Every mobile phone has its own serial number which is specific to that device. It is this number which is given to each and every mobile phone that the Ethio Telecom intends to register.

It is only those phones that are registered that would be allowed to work on the country’s telecom network. Ethio Telecom claims that the registration help combat the ever increasing Telecom fraud.

In the case of mobile theft too, once the phone is registered with the owners’ identity, the phone will be disabled with the notification from the owner; and this greatly help reduce mobile theft too; Ethio Telecom claims.
