‘Enku’ Magazine’s Editor in Chief Released on Bail

fac6aa2dThe editor-in-chief of Enku Magazine who had been in jail for three days is released for a 30 000 Br bail. The editor in chief was called to the central police office, the ‘maekelawi police’, and detained in connection with the alleged unrest at the Jimma University which was said to have been caused by the article appeared on the magazine two months ago.

The Editor in chief told Addis Admass newspaper that he was called to the police office on Monday afternoon for questioning and detained. The next day in the court though the police had asked for the fourteen days probing time, the court allowed only for seven days.

Two days later the Editor in chief is released for a 30 000 Br bail. Elias told the newspaper that the police told him “to write things that can bring solidarity and togetherness than something that divide”. The Editor in chief said that though being questioned by the police is tolerable, to be held in custody without bail for days is completely unacceptable.
