Dr. Tedros Holds Talks With the Us Deputy Assistance Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor and the Us Ambassador to Ethiopia

Dr. Tedros Adhanom held talks on Thursday (March 27) with Mrs. Karen Hanrahan, Deputy Assistance Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor of U.S State Department and Ambassador Patricia Hasslach, US Ambassador to Ethiopia.

Discussions covered issues related to regional and global affairs of common concern in order to consolidate and deepen Ethiopia-US partnership and mutual cooperation in all-round fields including businesses, trade, investment, peace, security, democratization, good governance and human rights through sustained dialogue and continuous discussion.

Mrs. Karen Hanrahan congratulated Dr. Tedros on Ethiopia’s eligibility for trade benefits under the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Dr. Tedros expressed his gratitude to the Government of the US for the renewed eligibility of Ethiopia under AGOA and said Ethiopia would extend its utmost ultimate to tap the benefits of AGOA with the objective of achieving growth and transformation, increasing employment, and promoting stability as well as speeding up the democratization process.

Mrs. Hanrahan also congratulated Dr. Tedros on Ethiopia’s admission as a member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). The country’s membership, she emphasized, would help the Government have constructive engagement and participation with various civil societies, NGOs and other stakeholders to hasten development objectives.

Dr Tedros affirmed that Ethiopia would collaborate and jointly work with civil societies and NGOs to improve and empower people’s lives. Both sides agreed to strengthen pragmatic cooperation, address common challenges at regional and global levels and push forward the continuous development of friendly and cooperative relations between the US and Ethiopia.
