An ancient Chinese coin that has been cast between 1039 and 1053 A.D is found at Harla, Eastern Ethiopia. This find which is the second of its kind and that has been at the hands of local farmers and now with Marco Vigano is confirmed to be cast at the Song Dynasty, Ren Zong’s reign.
Professor Qin Dashu, Archeologist at Beijing university and world authority on ancient Chinese coinage and international Chinese trade routes of the middle ages confirmed the find as the Chinese coin that has an inscription that read as “Huang Song Tong Bao” where the year of manufacturing being between 1039 and 1053 A.D.
Earlier, a Chinese coin has been found in Harla in 1984. Professor Qin Dashu has also confirmed that find from a design made by an Ethiopian scholar Cherinet Tilahun to have an
inscription “Yuan Fend Tong Bao” and the year of manufacturing to be between 1079 and 1085 and cast at the North Song empire in the time of Emperor Shen Zong.
