A Draft Bill that gives 103,000 meter cube of water per day to Djibouti is presented to the Parliament
A draft bill that allows the Djibouti government to take 103,000 meter cube underground water from Ethiopia for free is presented to the parliament for approval. The bill allows the Djibouti government to develop and use the ground water reserve at the Kuli valley of the Shinilie zone for free.
The bill which was presented to the parliament on Tuesday June 3, 2014 states the chronic water problem Djibouti faced. It is also indicated that 95% of the water Djibouti gets from her underground water reserve is salty.
Study conducted by the Ethiopian government depicts that the 210 kilometer square area of the Kuli valley area can provide 270,000 meter cube water every day.
Various members of the parliament have expressed their concern on the issue. When one MP asked as to what Ethiopia gets in return, the government representative minister W/o Roman Gebresellasie has answered saying that “what Ethiopia would get is a political gain.
