A 225 mln Dollar loan for the Bole Airport Expansion project from China’s Export Import bank is to be approved soon. Ethiopian house of people’s representatives has discussed on the details of the loan on Tuesday last week.
The new terminal that was built 20 years ago to serve 6 million passengers a year has passed the limit and began to serve 6.5 million passengers a year after 10 years of service. Therefore, to ease the service burden on the terminal, the need for an expansion work has become useful.
It is said that unless some expansion work is done soon on the terminal, it would greatly compromise the airport’s services. The number of passengers served by the Bole airport has increased from 1.3 million in 2001 to 6.34 million in 2012. In 2001, 9,609 airplanes have been served in the airport and in 2012 that number goes to 65, 417.
