Those who sent citizens abroad illegally sentenced to an up to sixteen years in prison

Amhara region’s labor and social affairs ministry announced that those brokers who sent citizens abroad illegally and in its wake causing physical and psychological harm sentenced to an up to sixteen years in prison.

Among four hundred forty seven illegal brokers who were arrested for engaging in an illegal act of sending citizens abroad, one hundred five of them were charged and sentenced from two to sixteen years in prison.

The illegal brokers are accused of misleading the victims by falsely claiming that they would get be rich instantly once they goes abroad; and the brokers are said to have taken up to ten thousand birr from the victims’ parents. Besides to this, more than 1,300 citizens who tried to travel abroad illegally are held and returned to their families.
