The third Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa held in Bahir Dar town under the theme: “Illicit Financial Flows and their impact on Peace and Security in Africa”.
Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn highlighted the need for strong and transparent systems nationally and globally in curbing illicit financial flows at the opening session of 3rd Tana Forum this afternoon in Bahir Dar.
This was echoed by H.E Olusegun Obsanjo who stated that these systems must be grounded in democracy and the principles of good governance.
Chairperson of the Forum, former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, said illicit financial flows were making the challenges of peace, security and stability more complex – by some, conservative, estimates Africa loses 60 billion USD annually.
Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the UN ECA, Dr Carlos Lopes and AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui have attended the two-day meeting.
