Two space telescopes mounted at the Entoto Space Science and Technology Research and Training Center, in Addis begins operation. The two telescopes are bought from Germany with a cost of 2.3 million euro. The mounting of the two telescopes put Ethiopia at the second position, following South Africa, in space exploration endeavors.
With these two telescopes, the Entoto Space Science and Technology Research and Training Center has planned to give research opportunity to twenty research students by the beginning of the next Ethiopian academic year on September, 2014. Ethiopian Space Science Society has helped for the overall project of setting the observatory.
The Ethiopian government has planned to have three satellites in space for communication, research and security purposes.
