The Economist magazine arranged an international summit on the issue of Ethiopia entitled The Ethiopia Summit 2015: Driving Continued Growth on February 5, 2015 at Sheraton Addis. Stating the reason for arranging the summit, The Economist writes that Ethiopia with a population of about 92 million, a government aspiring to reach middle income status within the next decade and real GDP growth forecast to average 7% a year in 2014 – 2018, it offers enormous growth potential across all sectors.
The magazine also mentioned the ambitious five year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) the country embarked on for advancing broad-based sustainable development where in the three quarters of the 2013/2014 period alone agricultural export grows by 9% and manufacturing by 11.4%.
