It is announced that the construction of the Corbet Geothermal power plant project will begin on July, 2014. The construction project will take about six years and has the capacity of producing 1,000 MW of electric power from geothermal source.
In the phase 1 of the construction project the power plant will start generating 500 MW of electric power. The project costs 2 billion dollars and an Icelandic company took the contract. It is expected that the Aleta Langano expansion and the Tendaho projects will generate a combined amount of 170 MW of geothermal electric power.
Though Ethiopia has the capacity to generate 6,000 MW of geothermal electric power, currently the country is only producing 8MW of power.
