Gondar University which has recently celebrated its 60th diamond jubilee has inaugurated a hospital that was built by 9.1 million dollars financial help from the American government’s Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The university has also said that since the 50 million birr promised by Sheikh Alamuddin for the hospital building five years ago hasn’t been kept the building cost has skyrocketed now to 120 million birr. Among the 4,135 graduates of the university this year, seventeen of them are Djiboutian and the university is claiming that training requests are coming from overseas too.
This year the university gave honorary doctorates to four prominent citizens for their contribution in various areas: Aster Awoke for her outstanding music career, Athlete Meseret Defar for her achievements in Athletics, Dr Mulu Muleta for an outstanding medical contribution in the country and overseas and for the Ethiopian space science society board chairman Ato Tefera Walewa.
