Workers of the Pioneer Cement factory that was established five years ago by the Chinese investors have been on a day long strike yesterday April 27, 2014 demanding various pay related and work safety issues.
As the workers union chairman Sintayehu Tadesse told the questions they have presented to the factory’s management haven’t been answered.
Therefore, they are forced to strike yesterday. Especially the salary raise that was the main issue hasn’t been answered which aggravated the situation leading to the strike.
The workers have demanded for the good working condition and safety including clean water, on job safety, good medical care and a hardship payment which is approved by the government. The workers said that unless their demands are answered they will present their case to the court.
