The Senate President, Sen. David Mark, has called for Novena’ prayer for the Super Eagles as they engage the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia on Oct. 12 in a World Cup qualifier match.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Novena is a nine-day special prayer for specific purpose in the Catholic Church.
All prayer warriors and all men of goodwill should pray for the Eagles because Nigeria cannot afford to miss the World cup,” Mark said in Tuesday at the commencement of plenary session.
He said that in addition to hard work and dedication to national service, the Eagles needed God’s assistance to win the match.
I urge all of you (senators) to commence Novena prayer because we must participate in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil come next year.”
The senate president said the senate and the National Assembly would do the needful to ensure the success of the team.
According to Wikipedia
A novena (from Latin: Novem, meaning Nine) is an institutional act of religious pious devotion in the Roman Catholic Church, often consisting of private or public prayers repeated for nine successive days in belief of obtaining special intercessory graces.[1]
The prayers are often derived from devotional prayer books, or consist of the recitation of the rosary (a “rosary novena”), or of short prayers through the day. Novena prayers are customarily printed in small booklets, and the novena is often dedicated to a specific angel, saint, a specific Marian title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or it invokes one of the personages of the Holy Trinity.
