EthioTelecom announced that it is going to implement robots on moving vehicles that would help in assessing mobile calls and network quality problems.
The robots will start work when the network infrastructure expansion of the Addis Ababa city is finalized. The robots that will be mounted on the moving vehicles call each other and assess the quality of the phone call and network connectivity.
The renewing of Addis Ababa’s network infrastructure is completed last Saturday. Addis Ababa’s 3.1 million mobile phone subscribers were all getting service by the Nokia and ZTE networks. These networks are now replaced by the Huawei network.
It is said that the new Huawei network is still needs upgrading for which EthioTelecom has received land from Addis Ababa city Administration. When the network upgrading is finalized on June, 2014, Addis Ababa city will have a network capability to serve around 6.5 million mobile phone subscribers. Among these 6.5 million mobile phone subscribers, 4.6 million will have the 2G, the 1.5 million the 3G and 400,000 of them the 4G technologies.
