Addis Ababa – The Institute of Agriculture and Research of Ethiopia stated that it’s set to import 4 incubators with the potential to incubate 150 thousand chickens in just 21 days. This would create a huge opportunity for the public to rely on chicken for meat demands.
Dr. Getinet Assefa, director of animal researches of the institute told the incubators would arrive in three months time from Holland and are set to be distributed to different regions of the country and help farmers make use of the chickens.
The Ethiopian government has spent more than 10.5 million Birr for the purchase of the incubators and that is expected to maximize productivity in this regard.
Domestic hens do bear only 40 – 60 eggs per year but hens imported from abroad can potentially produce up to 240 eggs per annum. With efforts made to replace the domestic hens by the imported ones, it’s been made possible to get about 120 eggs from a single hen.
