Council of Ministers of the Ethiopian government endorses a bill that allows for women to have a baby in an artificial way. It is said that the country has been investigating international experiences on the matter.
The bill is endorsed a week ago at the Council of Ministers of the Ethiopian government. It is indicated that the main reason for endorsing the bill has been since having an offspring is one of the basic natural rights and to ease the psychological burden of women that can’t give birth to a child.
The bill allows for any public or private health institutes to give the service if it is capable to. The bill hasn’t given permission for an artificial means of having a child through a surrogate mother. Since the medical practice needs special training, both the medical institute and the medical practitioner to give the service need a special certificate for the task. Currently some Ethiopians who need this medical service have to go to India and Thailand.
The amount needed for the service there being between 200 000 Br and 300 000 Br. In Ethiopia, Betel Hospital had given the service for seven years before it stopped the service for there was no bill on the matter.
The hospital had given the service for about 700 individuals. The cost for the medical service has been between 60 000 Br and 90 000 Br.
