Ethiopia and China on Wednesday expressed commitment to further boost bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
The 8th session of the Ethio-China joint commission meeting on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Trade was convened on Wednesday on the premises of the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting reviewed the development of cooperation between the two countries on diversified fields as trade, investment and financing, infrastructure and industrial zone since the last session of the joint commission.
Both sides have expressed their satisfaction at the results achieved and also demonstrated common aspiration for further enhancement of the friendly cooperation on the basis of equality, trust and mutual benefit.
The two sides have also signed documents of the meeting that discussed many areas of cooperation towards further advancing the cooperation between the two countries.
Ahmed Shide, Ethiopian State Minister of MoFED, and Zhang Xiangchen, Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce, told the press after the meeting that the two sides have held fruitful discussions on many areas of cooperation.
The two officials expressed the commitment of their respective countries to further strengthen the overall cooperation between Ethiopia and China.
Zhang noted that the two sides have dwelt upon all areas of cooperation and reached consensus to enhance the cooperation between the two countries.
He stated that China is keen to further strengthen and promote its overall cooperation with Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian state minister on his part noted that during the 8th session of the joint commission, the two sides have discussed different areas of cooperation including infrastructure, agriculture, and also social areas among others.
He said that they have agreed to advance the cooperation in many areas between the two countries.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the state minister noted that China as one of major development partners, has contributed to the development achievements Ethiopia has registered.
He said China has provided loans to Ethiopia for the implementation of projects, including roads, energy sector, railways, sugar factories, water supply, airport and telecom expansion.
Regarding future cooperation between the two countries, the state minister also said Ethiopia has prepared a draft comprehensive framework agreement that highlights indicative priority areas.
