EPRDF gave 1.3 million Birr to opposition political parties

As the Reporter writes, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has given 1.3 million birr to opposition political parties. From the 1.3 million Birr, Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) got 233, 585 Birr and Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP) received 269,442 Birr while All Ethiopian National Movement (AENM) and Ethiopian Raie Party (ERP) received 213, 168 Birr and 191, 677 Birr respectively.

Besides to these, Ethiopian Social Democratic Party (ESDP), Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (EFDUF), Ethiopian Democratic Union (EDU) got 148, 495 Birr, 98, 450 Birr and 79, 686 Birr respectively. It is indicated that this grant is of the fourth time and that the EPRDF gave it from its own budget. The grant is given only to parties that are involved in the Ethiopian Parties forum and signed the election ethics code. Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (MEDREK) which doesn’t sign the election ethics code didn’t get the money. EFDUF and ERP were unhappy by the amount given to them.
The money is meant to be used by the parties to open offices in regions, for buying stationaries, for office rent and other related activities.
