ADDIS ABABA – A new book, entitled “Djibouti: Yetigenetachen Mesferia”, that chronicles the diplomatic history of Ethiopia and Djibouti was launched at an event held at the Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency Saturday. On the event, a review and discussion from panelists were made on this 222 pages long book written by Dr. Belete Belachew, an Assistant Professor at Jimma University.

It was learnt that the book methodically pierces through the two countries’ diplomatic relations, and gives account of Ethiopia’s policies towards Djibouti since the 1940s.

Citing that there haven’t been many books that detail the relationship of the two countries, despite the fact that the two countries share deep historical, cultural, economic and political ties, many at the event believed the book will pool its own contributions in helping shade information and insight on the issue. “Most historical books tend to focus, either on Sudan, Somalia or Eritrea”, says Dr. Belete, “but Djibouti, port or no port, has been our country’s business outlet with the rest of the world. And it’s from this premise that I chose to focus (on the country).”

It was mentioned that such kind of scholastic books that benefit the country should find an audience; and this is a move in a right direction. Invited academics, journalists and guests were in attendance.

The book is on the store and being distributed by Jafar, Litman and Kebru Book Stores.
