08979634All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP) and Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ) parties have signed a pre-coalition agreement that would pave a way for the total union of the parties on June 8, 2014 at the AEUP office.

As the UDJ’s President Eng. Gezachew Shiferaw and AEUP’s president Abebaw Mehari said on the event, the coalition will be finalized in a month’s time and the coalition party’s general assembly will have around 400 members. When asked whether the coalition will participate in the coming election, the leaders of the two parties said that they haven’t yet decided on the issue. They have also said that the talk between the two parties for the coalition has been going on for four to five years time.
The violence erupted at the ceremony by some AEUP members who demanded ‘for internal rift in the party to be bridged before the coalition’ has created a turmoil at the ceremony and some even have been injured. UDJ’s Ato Tsegaye Alamerew has suffered a severe physical damage and AEUP’s higher official Ato Demelash Kasaye has been beaten. AEUP’s president Abebaw Mehari accused the ruling party for sending individuals to create havoc at the ceremony.

Two individuals who triggered the violence were captured; and as the UDJ’s public relations head, Habtamu Ayalew told the reporter newspaper, at the pockets of one of the individuals a receipt for the monthly payment to the EPRDF were found. Ato Habtamu said that ‘they released the individual after he admitted his wrongdoings’.

When asked as to why not they charged the individuals, he said that they wouldn’t think they would get justice on the matter.
