Addis Ababa University (AAU) has given today honorary doctorate degrees to four individuals. The famous Ethiopian Athlete and Olympic medalist Tirunesh Dibaba, The great Ethiopian theater personality Tesfaye Abebe (‘Father’), history professor Angelo Delboca and Psychiatrist Claire Penn have received their honorary doctorate degrees from the guest of honor Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
Tirunesh Dibaba is a long distance track athlete and the outdoor 5000 metres world record holder. She is the current World and Olympic 10,000 metres champion. She has won in total five world track titles and five world cross country titles. She is nicknamed the “Baby Faced Destroyer.”
Tesfaye Abebe (‘Father’) is known throughout the country for his decades’ long effort in training generations of actors, directors and other theater professionals. Himself a playwright and director, he wrote and directed numerous plays.
Angelo Del Boca is an Italian historian and communist writer. He is specialized in the study of the Italian Colonial Empire, and the involvement in Libya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia during the first part of 20th century. Del Boca has been the first Italian scholar involved in research on the crimes committed by the Italian army in Ethiopia and Libya.
During Fascism and World War II, He took part in the Italian resistance movement.
The fourth individual to get an honorary doctorate degree from AAU is the famous Psychiatrist Claire Penn.
