patientcentered A new state-of-the-art hospital was opened aiming to contribute to the nation’s health care system.

The 100 million birr, Yerer Hospital with 70 beds, was inaugurated on Thursday June 5, 2014.

Dr. Eyob Tesfaye who founded the hospital said they hope to have good enough facilities and service to be able to care for people who otherwise would need to go abroad to seek treatment.

They plan to offer a patient centered approach to care that he says will be new to the experience of most Ethiopians.  Ethiopians that can afford better treatment go to Asia, the Middle East and South Africa. The Bangkok Hospital in Thailand treated more than 6,000 Ethiopians in 2011 alone. A lot of money is involved, as the average cost is about USD 13,000.
