18 Chinese Companies Filed a Complaint for Ethiopian Government for Unfair Denial of Project Jobs
A letter collaboratively written by 18 Chinese companies for the Ethiopian embassy in Beijing, China and for the Ethiopian Prime Minister Office describes the alleged unfair treatment with which they are unable to gain project jobs in Ethiopia.
The letter accuses Chinese companies already working in Ethiopia and some government officials for denying them project jobs in Ethiopia.
This letter that was written on December 18, 2013 is also sent for Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. The complaining companies are known to have been in engaged on Irrigation, Energy, Road construction and clean water project areas.
In the aforementioned areas, the letter states that some Ethiopian government officials are giving jobs that worth billions of birr to the Chinese companies already working in Ethiopian without any bid.
The 18 companies noted that most of the Chinese companies currently working in Ethiopia are of lower and middle level companies and even have records of incompetence.
But, as the letter describes, corrupt relationships these Chinese companies that are already working in Ethiopia have with some Ethiopian high officials have enabled them to acquire multibillion birr projects unfairly without fair competition and bids.
The companies’ letter has also mentioned the huge amount of financial loss and inefficient project works that would cost the country.
